MICROSOFT AUTHENTICATION & TLS UPDATE – SAGE 100

Changes related to Microsoft® Basic Authentication and TLS 1.0/1.1

There are two important technical updates approaching that will impact Sage 100 customers if they are not on a recent product release. These customers will need to upgrade to not be negatively impacted.

Microsoft Basic Authentication

  1. Effective October 1, 2022: Microsoft will disable basic authentication and will require the use of modern authentication (OAuth) for connection to servers, services, and API endpoints, such as Exchange on-line and O365 email tenants.

This means that in-product email services will stop working if a customer is on a version of Sage 100 other than 2021.4 or 2022.1.

We are recommending all customers upgrade to the latest version of Sage 100 by October 1, 2022.

Transport Layer Security

  1. Effective September 2023: Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a third-party component that is widely adopted and designed to facilitate privacy and data security when communicating over the internet. TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 have been formally deprecated by the Internet Engineering Task Force since June 2018 and they are highly recommending usage of TLS 1.2.

Therefore, by the end of next summer, Sage will no longer support TLS 1.0 and 1.1. Customers must be on Sage 100 2019.4, 2020.1 or higher. It will be necessary for impacted customers to upgrade to a supported version before September 2023.
